Gamagori (population about 80,000) has four onsen spa resorts: Miya, Gamagori, Katahara and Nishiura. Among them, Nishiura Onsen is the most popular one. It is just like Atami onsen in reduced scale. In Nishiura Peninsula there is also a motorbike race circuit. Standing on the top of the hill facing Takeshima Island, is a castle-like Gamagori Prince Hotel, a major landmark of Gamagori.

Gamagori has some nice museums and aquariums. Particularly Gamagori Museum of Earth, Life and the Sea also known as "Sea of Life Science Museum" is a popular natural history museum dedicated to natural history of marine creatures. It is also a general science museum for local residents with various events for children.

Takeshima Island is the unmistakable symbol of Gamagori and the island is rich in nature and culture.
