Maisaka town is now a part of Nishi-ku, Hamamatsu. Maisaka is best known as the Old Tokaido Post Station #30. To younger generation, however, MAISAKA is one of the popular surfing sites. Maisaka Beach is about 10 minutes walk from the start of Maisaka Post Station. Maisaka Lighthouse serves as a nice landmark to get to the beach. Maisaka beach has two surf spots, the Main Area, about 1 kilometer east of the lighthouse and Todaimae, the area near the lighthouse. Todaimae area is popular for training ground for beginners to intermediate level surfers but sometimes rip current is so strong the surfers might nearly get drowned. So beginners must get guidance from experienced surfers.

Maisaka by Hiroshige

It is sometimes hard to find the view exactly described in Hiroshige's woodblock prints of Tokaido. MAISAKA is no exception. The mountain behind the Lake Hamana is no doubt the low mountains about 300 to 400 m(1000-1500ft) in elevation which forms the border between Shizuoka and Aichi prefecture. Just like the painting for Kanaya the contours of the mountain is exaggerated. And from Maisaka you cannot see Mt. Fuji that way.
