Take Subway Line
There are two ways to get to Nagoya castle. One way is to use Me~Guru, the sightseeing bus service to major destinations for flat fee of 200 yen. But last time I went to Nagoya I used subway instead because I stopped by Meijo Park before visiting Nagoya castle. Using subway to Nagoya castle used to be the only way to the castle and many still do though the train fee is 30 yen higher than Me~Guru bus service. To get to Nagoya castle from Nagoya station first take Higashiyama Line from Sakuradori Exit. Change trains at Sakae and take Meijo line bound for Shiyakusho and Ozone. Shiyakusho station is the second stop from Sakae. From Shiyakusho station, East Gate of Nagoya Castle is closer and less crowded than Main Gate and it is closer to Ninomaru Garden and the tea house as well.

A Sign for special ferry service to Kuwana
Shichiri-no-Watashi ferry, 28-kilometer-long ferry service between #41 Tokaido station MIYA(Atsuta) and #42 Kuwana had been essential part of Tokaido travel between Edo(Tokyo) and Kyoto. In 1871 three years after Meiji Restoration, the ferry route was banned. And Tokaido Rail Line and the Route 1 in late 19th century completely changed the situation. And the ferry service was buried just in memory.
In 2008 Shichiri-no-Watashi ferry returned for the first time in 130 years though it was only for special events. Lucky Tokaido walkers can have three-hour ride to Kuwana or vice versa for the ticket price of 3,500 yen. This year(2011) the special ferry service to Kuwana is slated on September 24, October 15, October 29 and November 3. According to the organizer of special ferry service, details will be announced on August 8.

Change to Higashiyama Line(Subway) at Chikusa
Tsuruma Park and Higashiyama Park(Zoo and Botanical Garden) are often toured together particularly during cherry viewing season in early April. First take Chuo line bound for Tajimi and change trains at Chikusa. From Chikusa take Higashiyama Subway Line bound for Fujigaoka. Sometimes Higashiyama Park is referred to as Higashiyama Koen. Koen is the Japanese word for Park. Take off the train at Higashiyama Koen station. After taking a few minutes uphill walk you reach the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Garden.
