Korankei, one of the best autumn leaves sites

Toyota is known as a "Corporate Town" carrying the same name as one of the world's top automakers. The population is about 420,000, the second largest city in Aichi prefecture with the area of 918 square kilometers(about the half of Maui) , the largest in Aichi. Just as Hamamatsu in Shizuoka, the image of industrial town will be betrayed by wonderful countryside appeal with nice village of Obara and Asuke, historical town both of which have the appeal on its own right. These areas are not easy to reach for tourists unless you join the bus tour mostly for Japanese. It will take about one hour from either downtown Toyota or Okazaki by bus.

Toyota's top attraction is no doubt, Korankei Gorge, noted for its views of autumn leaves. Korankei is part of now defunct Asuke town which was amalgamated into Toyota in 2005. Since I hate crowds and autumn viewing season is usually busy I miss the autumn leaves opportunity a great deal. I will be visiting off-season Korankei if I have an opportunity.

Obara Village thrived as the crossroads to the highways and is best known as the town of Japanese Paper and the view of Four Season Cherry which blooms during Autumn.

Mt. Sanage Hike

Mt. Sanage bordering between Seto and Toyota is low moutain with 629 meters above sea level but it is one of the most popular hiking destinations for Nagoya residents. When I climbed the mountain in 1992 I started from Seto side of the mountain then I went down to Sanage shrine. It took about five hours and the trail was excellently managed.

I happened to find Toyotashi Mingeikan when I was browsing links of Seizawa Keisuke Museum. It is one of my wishlist attractions in Toyota.
