You get the most delicious 'momos' or dumplings, in Shillong. Dipped in the accompanying fierce red chilly sauce and taken with a steaming soup, it makes for the most succulent snack of the day, any time, any place. A dozen dumplings may cost you just Rs. 15/- or roughly one-third of a US $ (current conversion rate is US $ 1=Rs. 50/- or GBP 1=Rs. 70/-) at a road side stall. At one of the better eating joints, the price may be a little over a US $. Most of the restaurants in Shillong sell Chinese dishes but the one place where the outer covering of the 'momos' are the thinnest, and therefore, the most heavenly, is 'Flavours' in Laitumkhrah. They make motton as well as chicken 'momos'. If you request them in the morning, you get equally good vegetarian 'momos'.
