Marine Life

KK is one of the places on the planet for marine life. The diving is varied and exciting. TARP is close. Mantanani and the other islands range from day trips to longer stays and of course the two gems are Layang layang and Sipadan. Personally I avoid Sipadan, The fish reefs and macro on Layang or Langkayan are just as good, fewer visitors and awesome underwater scenery.
The other place I love is the Aquarium in KK, called the Green Connection, the staff are a dedicated bunch of conservationists. Their hearts are all in the right places. I visit on every trip and I dive in the giatn coral reef tank every chance I get.

Borneo is famous for forests and I love tramping through the mud to see what is over the next ridge. Generally i walk less than 2km from the end of the road, there is so much to see but you gotta look closely. Rain Forests are about giant trees and minute insects. It is really hard to find the creatures in-between. Look closely and avoid the tourist destinations - 500 m away through the trees is generally far enough to find things that the plank-walking tourist never sees.
