Bosnia-Herzegovina offers some of the most stunning scenery in Europe. Over the millenia, barren mountain terrain and steep wooded ravines have been carved into the Dinaric Alps, defeating foreign subjugators and entrancing visitors.
It is easier than you might think to visit the country. I was in Split, reviewing the bus schedules, and there were, in 1997, several buses a day to Sarajevo. Most western country citizens do not require a visa. With that knowledge, and 30 DM for the fare, just choose a bus line and go: <i>nema problema</i>.
I chose the northern route, via Livno, Bugojno, Dornji Vakuf, Travnik (immortalized by Ivo Andrich's "Travnik Chronicles"), Vitez, Busovaca, to Sarajevo
