"Resort town in the less crowded side of Algarve" Monte Gordo by berenices

Monte Gordo was a sleepy, small fishing village on the less popular side of Algarve -- towards the Spanish border -- but has eventually been overran by big hotels for the usual summer tourist hordes. There is nothing very special about the beach there, it does not have the dramatic rock formations which make the western part of Algarve interesting, but the beach in Monte Gordo has its own attraction. There is still what remains of its old persona --one can still see the fishing way of life there. Small boats with bright flags still throng one side of the beach, with the fishermen's cottages just nearby. Here, migrating birds can still be seen. Overall, a nice place to base in, if one wants to get away from the usual crowds in Algarve but still have easy access to the comforts of a tourist town.
