Stourport is a town of about 20,000 people in the middle of England & is the most northerly point on the River Severn capable of taking sea-going boats, not that we see many - but we do see a lot of small individually owned tourist boats. Historically it is known as a 17th century canal town at the confluence of the River Stour and the River Severn and also the point at which the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal joins the River Severn. The main industry for the town is tourism, (almost 100% visiting for the day). The population of the town has hardly changed for 20 years. |

| | Entry boundary sign The top sign is erected by the Town Council. The small picture reads Stouport-on-Severn Georgean Canal Town. The lower sign is erected by the larger District Council. Carol and I lived here from August 1972 until November 2008 when we moved to Shrawley about 5 miles downstream. We used to live in an former police house (built c1950) very near to the town centre. |

| Pros: | "A town that seems to generate strong opinions of those who live here and don't like it and those who enjoy the river, canal and architecture." | | Cons: | "Because of the high cost of repairing Georgian buildings there are an unusual number of empty or under used shops in the town centre" |
