"Outdoor Scotland" LesHamilton's Profile

Lochnagar

One of my lifelong passions has been walking the mountains of Scotland.

Although a small country, Scotland is remarkably mountainous and boasts the majority of Great Britain's mountains over 1000 metres.

Lochnagar, nestling up Royal Deeside between Ballater and Braemar, is very much our 'local' mountain, and is almost invariably the first to be climbed each season. Lochnagar boasts a lovely eastern corrie featuring one of the most popular climbing cliffs in the country, but there are excellent paths which take the casual walker past all obstacles to the 1155 metre summit.

By way of variation, the descent can be made down the valley of the Glas Allt, with the exciting prospect of passing the impressive Glas Allt Falls as you approach Loch Muick
