"I love going to far away lands" Bourgeois's Profile
Australia is a pretty isolated continent, right down the bottom of the planet, it can take up to five hours in a plane just to get from Sydney to Perth, so every journey we embark on is massive.
I started to travel when I was 18 years old, I moved to Queensland to manage a surf shop, it was then I realised I loved to meet new people and see, new and wonderful sights.
I traveled to Bali the next year, as many Australians have, it was such a cool place, cheap and so far removed from my home town, I realised this was what life was about and at any opportunity in the future I would travel. I went to Bali another four times, such fond memories.
I decided to travel to somewhere different but exotic, somewhere of the beaten track, I decided to go to Mexico, luckily my good friend Wendy decided to come along. We landed at LA first and went to all the tourist attractions Disneyland, Universal studios, Knottsberry farm and Hollywood. The next day we all met at the Roosevelt hotel (before it was redecorated) on our adventure to Mexico for six weeks on a top deck bus. We traveled all the way down to Oaxaca and back again. It was an amazing journey that I will never forget, and I am sure this ignited my passion for travel, but it was just put on the back burner, until my kids were older...
I have had a good life, living in a coastal town, the beach has always been important for my recreation, I would take my boys to the beach for hours, with sunscreen on, of course, and let them play, it was my escape, I think there is something very calming hearing the waves crashing and looking at nature.
Now my lot are older and doing there own thing It's party time again, I am enjoying going out and enjoying myself. I have done a good job with my lads, One was the school captain and the other seems likely to follow in his footsteps, they are heavily into Jazz music, which is unusual for teenagers, my father loves their taste, Gene Krupper, Miles Davis all the Jazz greats. I love my lot.. life's good
Growing up near the beach was great, I was destined to become a Surfie chick, it was a good scene, Werri beach had a population of about 200, sleepy little coastal town, at some point I had to go ,with no job prospects, I had to move to the big smoke- Sydney about 80 kilometers away. Werri beach is worth a look it is very popular in summer, with beautiful beaches and a relaxed atmosphere.
Over the last few years I discovered the Nan Tein Temple, about 9 minutes drive from my home, It is the biggest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere, I have found a spiritual place to go and meditate and I have been taking Buddhist lessons. I have taken my sons on the 1 day retreat to show them ways of relaxing whilst they are doing there exams. I can see myself becoming a Buddhist in the future, it is my thing....I love it...

Love the 1983 Mexico shot!
CT has been popular with Italians for decades, but Rick Steves brought it to the attention of the US more recently..and then there are the cruise ships. But, strangely, it barely figures in the UK consciousness! Thanks for visiting. :-) J
