The captial of the state Alagoas, in North-East Brazil, between the states Pernambuco and Sergipe. Maceió has about 700.000 inhabitants, but seems like a smaller city. The city is the culture capital of America in 2002. We went to Maceió on a charter-tour from São Paulo, after spending two weeks in the south and celebrating the Carnaval in São Paulo. Maceió is the perfect place to stay if you like day-trips to beautiful beaches, little international tourism and a low-paced atmosphere. |
