We are going to Alaska in June of 2010. Planning is half the fun for me--so many decisions! We are flying into Fairbanks (still deciding whether to stay a day there or leave right away to morning after we get in). From Fairbanks we will proceed by rail to Denali and have splurged to stay two nights at one of the lodges far inside the park to get away from the crowds. When we leave, we will proceed by rail to Anchorage, stay overnight, and then take the rail to Seward where we meet our cruise ship for a seven day cruise that ends in Vancouver. We are staying an extra day in Vancouver before we fly home to Georgia.
On the cruise we will visit Skagway, Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan. Right now, I am in process of planning shore excursions. Too many choices! So far, the following are on the list: a glacier hike, whale watching, a river float trip, salmon fishing, and exploring local history. Nothing nailed down yet!
