Reasons to visit the Faroe Islands

Almost everyone asked me the same question .. "the Faroe Islands, where are they?" Some got close with "they're in Scotland aren't they?" close but no cigar. It doesn't say much for the average Briton's knowledge of geography does it?! So why the Faroes? They are not after all blessed with the most clement weather .. gales, fog, rain and Atlantic storms .. that's what you get in the Faroes isn't it? Well yes true but I don't go on holiday for the weather. Why? I hope after you have read this page and my travelogue you will understand why.

OK my main reason for visiting the Faroes was to see birds, the Faroes have some of the largest sea bird colonies in Europe and some of the most accessible colonies too. Sea birds are a rarity in my native Shropshire, Black Headed Gulls are virtually all I can see here. So I was in seventh heaven with all the Gulls, Guillemots, Skuas and of course Puffins in the Faroe Islands.
