A beautiful city to visit even on a short trip

by Gypsystravels - last update: Aug 28, 2008

Portland for me had never been a "vacation or travel" destination and up until a few years ago was not high on my list of cities to visit. While reearching cities on the west coast that we could "see" in 48 hours we realized that Portland was a good start.
Portland has a wide range of parks, gardens, wineries and of course Mt. Hood in the distance.

We arrived in early afternoon on a drizzly and overcast day, but we were determined to see as much as the rain would allow us to see. We visited the Chinese Gardens in Chinatown, Skidmore Fountain and Saturday Market, the downtown area, Chapman and Lawnsdales Squares, Transit Mall area and of course a pub crawl.

This was during my frist trip to Portland (on a mileage run "mr") where we had about 10 hours to venture into the city. We'll be back a few more times later this year and I am sure we'll be very familiar with the city.

My second visit

We've returned to Portland for a second time in September 2006 where we spent most of our time visiting and exploring Washington Park. The weather was fantastic and what better way to spend it than enjoying the beautiful outdoors?

I've found Portland to be a very beautiful and inviting city. I am hoping to come back soon and spend a few more days exploring the Columbia River Gorge and its envrons.

Many things to do

Although I've only visited Portland on two short one day visits, there is plenty to keep any visitor busy. Washington Park is a great place to start.
