Kristara's new Avalon Page - Avalon

The small town of Avalon is nestled in the valley above its harbor about some twenty miles west of Los Angeles, it is virtually unknow and uncrowded. An ideal getaway from LA.

21 miles long and less than a mile wide at is norrowest point, Catalina Island elevations range from sea level to 2,000 feet. The population is around 3,000 inhabitants.

With a ten year waiting list for a gasoline powered vehicle, golf carts of all sorts are the main way of island transportation for the residents.

1. Air Tower controller usually chase away bison from the runway
2. There is a Casino with no gambling
3. There is a Bell Tower with no Church
4. 86% of Catalina Island is off limits
5. Catalina Island is owned and protected by the Santa Catalina Island Conservacy
6. Herd of Buffalo (American Bison) started from a group which were first brought as movie extras in 1924.
7. Bald Eagles are also found here along with two other species found nowhere else in the world; Catalina Island Fox and the Beechey ground squirrel.
