Exploring our Nation's Capital Everyone should pay a visit to our Nation's Capital at least once and most of us have done this visit as young students on a class trip. This was the case for me on my very first visit back in the late 70's. It would be more than 20 years before I return to this city and I've seem to returned at least once a year for the past three years. It's a fantastic city to explore on foot. I'm glad that I've had the opportunity to see this city as an adult and love visiting on weekend jaunts.
The musuems are world class there is always something new to explore for all those history buffs out there. |

The Nation's Capital is full of Monuments, Memorials, Museums, and plenty of Politicians. Exploring the multi faceted city is very easily done on foot.
Here are just a few of the major highlights for a visit to DC
White House (request through one's Member of Congress) Capital Building Lincoln Memorial Washington Monument Arlington National Cemetary WWII Memorial Smithsonian Institute's many museums (all free) Botanic Garden and other public gardens |

Pawtuxet Thu Apr 10, 2008 23:54 UTC Great tour of DC...one of my favorite towns. I see you have some similar favorites...some pics look just like mine! It's a great town. Maybe time for another visit....hmmmmmm | kenHuocj Mon Mar 3, 2008 14:22 UTC life is a record of memories and aspirations; jan and feb 2007, transitted via IAD to take Mother to her country of birth, a sweet sour journey, her last but i think meaningful one ;-))) | gilabrand Wed Dec 5, 2007 19:32 UTC I missed the American history museum for lack of time. Maybe I'll make it on the next visit. You make it sound interesting. | Nemorino Mon Oct 29, 2007 22:09 UTC I visited the air and space museum decades ago and was highly impressed. As I said in one of my Paris tips, my father was in the crowd that greeted Charles Lindbergh at the end of his transatlantic solo flight in the Spirit of St. Louis. |
