For as long as I could remember, Rome was a place I wanted to visit. I can't remember quite when this occurred, but I do recall that movies had a lot to do with it. Watching "Three Coins in a Fountain", "La Dolce Vitta", "A Roman Holiday" where just a few of the many movies that romanticized and glamorized this beautiful city for me.
I wasn't planning to visit Rome when I did, but the opportunity was too good to pass up. Although my visit was only for about 5 days, I did fall in love with the city and promised myself to return as soon as I could. My mother was traveling with me and became very ill during our visit. She wasn't able to leave the hotel for at least 3 days. I felt horrible for her and refused to leave her alone, she didn't want me to miss out expoloring the city and refused to spoil it for me, so she decided she would stay behind at the hotel until she felt better. She is such a great travel companion and didn't even complain. She wanted to see St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Museum so much, that she went along with us and after a few hours visit needed to return to the hotel. I knew she needed to see a doctor at that point when her fever rose to about 104. She was then diagnosed with laringitis. Poor mom, at least she had the opportunity to see the Vatican and the Pope. |
