For years now I had wanted to travel to Belize but found that the price of the airfare was too high to justify such a trip, but I finally did make it here.
I was doing some research trying to find places where it would be warm, and where we can travel to for a short 5 day trip. A place that I had never been to (Mexico, Caribbean, California, Florida, all out) and a place that wouldn't cost a bomb during the peak winter season. Somehow, I found airfares to Belize during my time period to be, well, cheap. (I barely paid $140 rt from NYC).
I couldn't pass this up and called my girlfriend to see if she was interested in joining me since she had been saying she needed to get away for a few days. We decided on the dates and booked our flights to Belize and worry later about planning the rest of the trip.
5 days is all we wanted to spend during this holiday, so we had to make sure to make the best of our time. We did know we wanted to relax and pamper ourselves, as well as enjoy the warm weather and water activites and we did exactly that. Our only regret, that 5 days isn't even close enough of the time you would need to appreciate this beautiful country.
As well as relaxing we also wanted to enjoy some great food. My girlfriend and I are both professed foodies, so we definitely wanted to splurge on a few good meals. We both enjoy a great meal no matter where we go and Belize wasn't any different.
There are plenty of good inexpensive restaurants as well as some that are more expensive and just as good. We asked around and we were happy with the places that were recommended to us as well as the places that we found on our own.
I can say that every single meal we had in Belize was quite good and we didn't mind having to pay the prices we did for it.
- Pros:Still quite beautiful and not too touristy
- Cons:Expect to spend more than 1/2 of what you planned
- In a nutshell:We had a fantastic time and will definitely return

I was in Caye Caulker around the time you were in Ambergris Cay. I got to experience the "low-key" side of Belize, so it was very interesting to read about your more upscale trip. Such a beautiful country with wonderful people, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Janet, I am going to Ambergris Caye and staying in Victoria House in a few weeks and I am so excited! Thank you for all the great tips, especially about the Island Ferry
Hola mi REINA que pagina tan informative y que bella te ves en esos fotos, lastima que no tuve contigo!
Janet. The meals in your restaurants of choice all looked and sounded divine. Of course, being where you were, didn't hurt, did it? lol Larry
I suspect there is more to the story... meantime, your pics of beach, water, palms, and sunshine help to get the point across. I'd like to be sitting on that bench on the porch of your hotel room...zoning out looking at the water.
ohh you went to belize! lucky you! hope your well me lovely lady! xxx
