Ge bent d'un parel van ut zuiden This is the last sentence of the Breda Anthem (yeah, the have one!) meaning Breda is the pearl of the south. Sometimes the call it "The The Hague of the south". This is the city where I live. During the past few years many churches, mills and old buildings have been unnecessarily destroyed and though Breda isn't as popular as Amsterdam it has more to offer then some people think.
Especially the atmosphere makes the city a nice place to be. It's cosy and the place isn't overruled by tourists. You can sit down and relax in the main square and look up to the 13th century church. There are many activities and celebrations throughout the year; Carneval, Jazz Festival, Harley Davidson Day, Queens day etc etc.
This year (2001) the carnival was celebrated from 24 feb. to 27 feb. and it was verrrry nice!! |
