I have stayed in Sydney for five months for my study. Sydney may be the first city of Australia it's not the capital (that's Canberra).
The city is one of the oldest in australia since James Cook arrived here over 200 years ago. The first thing you'll notice is the Harbour Bridge. This is a city of good weather, beaches, water, skylines, modern buildings and of course the Sydney2000 olympic Games!! Surrounded by nature parks, several beaches in the East and a great nightlife it's surely a city to stay for a while.
