  • Just off Hwy 78 is Lavonia Park. The park is right on the east shore of Lake Lavon. There are boat ramps both inside and outside of the park. The outside boat ramp is open 24 hours a day. There are also picnic and camping facilities.

Take FM 6 (country road 389) ,off Hwy 78, north of Lavon

  • On the east shore of the lake, Lavonia Park is closest to the dam wall. In summer it can get pretty crowded with boats and jet ski’s and is best for north winds.

Off The Beaten Path: Lake Lavon

  • The lake is approximately 21,400 acres in size the deepest part of the lake is about 38 feet deep. The Lake was constructed for the purpose of flood control and water supply and the gates are closed to prevent flooding down stream of the lake when rain occurs. After stream and river flows decrease, water is slowly released from the lakes, thus preventing flooding downstream. Lavon is noted among anglers for its outstanding crappie and catfish catches.

  • The dam is located on the East Fork of the Trinity River. The Lake was constructed for the purpose of flood control and water supply. Unfortunately the road over the dam is closed so you only get to see the backside of it from the Wylie end.

Wylie is about a 5 minute drive up highway 78 from where I am currently staying. I actually hope to settle down in the Wylie area this Spring for the next 4 years before moving back to Florida. I can't imagine anyone finding 22 tips about the town. ;-)

Beautiful, this is as I imagine a 'real' American town to look like. Love the Brown House and the B & B also
