Off The Beaten Path: Hooks
  • Tip Rating:
  • Hooks is on U.S. Hwy 82 and I-30 ? 13 miles west of Texarkana in eastern Bowie County. The town expanded around a plantation in the late 1830's. Warren Hooks was the owner.

The town slowly grew first with the rail service then the post office followed by a school, two sawmills and a hotel. Shortly before the US entered World War II, 2 two large military installations were constructed just south of the town. This had a big impact on the growth of the town. In 1990 the population was 2,684.

Off The Beaten Path: Ramage Farms
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Ramage Farms spreads over 600 acres which heads back from the Red River. They have fields full of pecans and pumpkins. Not only that but they have more than 23 acres of blueberries. This all started off from two brothers buying their mother a blueberry plant. The family and its generations are dedicated to farming and you will not see the conventional run farm here. They have ventured out into showing their produce in various states in their new store. The 70ft silo is a big landmark as to where you can find them.

Location :At Hooks exit #208 and I-30.

Really interesting reading about Scott Joplin and the ace of spades his is unusual, and it had a bathroom and kitchen wing added a bit like us at the moment - lol :-)

Great page! I went to Texarkana while moving from Chicago to Houston. In the evening , we drove through downtown(S!). A very peculiar city with administrative offices doubled! It looked really nice for living, although very dead in the downtown area.

A great page on this unusual city - one that I've always wondered about! I almost made it last year during my trip to southeastern Oklahoma but time ran out!
