Terrell Travel Guide: 39 reviews and 48 photos

Terrell lies in the north east section of Texas, about 30 miles east of Dallas. It is the largest town in Kaufman County which is made up of 788 square miles of the Blackland Prairie region.

Terrell's origins were as a depot town along the Texas and Pacific Railroad Company's new transcontinental line from Longview (in East Texas) to California. The first white settlers arrived in the county around 1848. The Americans placated the Caddo and Cherokee Indians, living there at the time, with jewellery and trinkets and consequently experienced few Indian problems. Terrell became organised in 1873 when the railroad was built.

Currently, Terrell is a banking and marketing centre for this agricultural area which features cotton, beef cattle and dairying as well as 33 local industries - garments, steel, aluminium, plastic and wood fabrication. The population is around 13,840 and growing with more and more new subdivisions springing up. More people are choosing to spread out from the Dallas Country region in search of more reasonably priced housing. There is no shortage of recreational facilities with 150 acres are set aside for recreational purposes. There are 3 lakes relatively close by and 2 golf courses.

Nice tips ! Reminds me of home - I miss Texas! I used to drive by that Russell Stover place all the time and I finally stopped and was so sad cause I thought you got to go on a factory tour! But no - just a gift shop!
