Rockwall is the County seat of Rockwall County, approximately 22 miles east of downtown Dallas on Interstate 30. The city was founded in 1854. Covering 147 sq miles, Rockwall County is the smallest county in Texas. In the early 1800’s The Caddo Indians occupied the area. Conflict arrived when the Creek Indians began to arrive and spread themselves out. Both tribes were still at war when the first Anglo-Americans arrived sometime in the 1840s.

In the early 1850s farmers were digging a well when they discovered a rock wall that crossed the county and at some places surfaced above ground level. Scientists have since determined that it is a natural formation, but the preferred tale is that it was built by prehistoric natives. Rockwall got its name for the rock formation.

Lying on the east shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, Rockwall has become a popular residential area with plenty of recreational activities which not only include water activities but golfing as well. The Rockwall Community Playhouse performs regularly and there is an art gallery of both regional and local artists.

Woww.. the Italian resturants sound fantastic.. Shame about the Lake drownings.. a little bit of extra care sure would go well.
