Lady Bird Johnson (wife of President Johnson) was born and raised in Harrison County just north of Marshall. She later became the wife of the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson although she was quite an accomplished woman in her own right. She received her famous nickname from the family maid, Cindy Gibson, who thought she was as pretty as a 'Lady Bird.' George Foreman (two-time Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the world, an Olympic Boxing Champion in 1968) was also born in Marshall. He now has one of his homes and his training centre located just outside Marshall.

Fire Ant Festival

Fire Ant Festival - 2nd weekend in October. Now where else would you find a festival celebrating dammed fire ants. They are a curse and bite with fury (I know). However, the festival is quite a day – a little wild and on the wacky side, with its Rubber Chicken Chunking Contest, Fire Ant Calling (don’t even ask me about this one), Fire Ant Round-Up, FA Diaper Derby, Gurning Content (ugly face making) and other crazy activities.

There are also saner, bands, floats, antique cars and cook-offs (hopefully not from Fire Ants). Hundreds of cyclers participate in a scenic 10, 25, 35 and 100mile bike tour on …. wait for it… Tour de FireAnt bicycle tour.
