Nutshell Eatery and Bakery
  • Tip Rating:

  • The restaurant features two large painted murals on one of its wall. One of them depicts John Wilkes Booth tending bar and Jesse James about to shoot a bear. John Wilkes Booth (alias John St. Helen) apparently confessed his entire sordid past to the Gordon family on his deathbed and even disclosed where he hid the murder weapon. The Gordon family still apparently have the gun which is said to have nearly split the United States apart for the second time in less than a decade.

This small but legendary restaurant, serves a good selection of super sandwiches, grilled sandwiches, hamburgers as well as a selection of salads. For breakfast they have omelettes, eggs/ham/bacon, blueberry pancakes and French toast as well as a buffet on Sundays. There are also daily specials which are served with vegetables, rolls and dessert.

    Pearl Street Pasta House
  • Tip Rating:

  • This building was originally built in 1895 to house a hardware business. In 1929 the Transcontinental Oil Company purchased the building and two walls were removed to allow automobile access for purchasing petrol. In the restoration of the square, the building has now turned into a restaurant. The building is listed on the Texas Historical Register.

The restaurant claims to have the best seafood and steak specials on the square. They have a balcony and patio which is used for special occasions

    Kelly's Restaurant
  • Tip Rating:

  • This restaurant is upstairs with a fine dining ambiance while downstairs is the Bistro which serves a lighter menu with nightly entertainment.

They have Karaoke every Wednesday and ladies night on Thursday. Brunch is served from 121.00am – 3.00pm on Sundays.

The building that Kelly’s is located used to be the old Palace theatre during the 1930s. Prior to that in 1893 it had been a furniture store on one side and a hardware store on the other. In 1898 one side ended up vacant while the other side was a grocery store. In 1905, the grocery store was replaced by a printing shop. In 1910 a grocery store with a pool room on the 2nd floor filled the previously vacant side and the printing shop was taken over by a tailor.
