Corsicana is located in Navarro County in northeast central Texas, about 1 hour south of Dallas. Navarro County was created by Texas Legislature in 1846 and was named after Jose Antonio Navarro. Corsicana was later founded in 1849. In 1884 the city hired someone to drill a city water well and when the drilling was completed, instead of water, oil spurted from the well. The elders of the City were so upset, they refused to pay the driller. However, it did not take long for Corsicana to realise that this first oil discovery west of the Mississippi might not be such a bad thing. In 1897 a local company built the state?s first oil refinery. This company was called Magnolia Oil which is better known today as Mobil. The Texas Company (Texaco) was started up shortly after and Corsicana became one of the states wealthiest cities.

Navarro County is recognised for the longest continuous oil flow in Texas with over 200 million barrels produced since 1895. Corsicana was the first in state to use natural gas for fuel and lighting, and crude oil for locomotive fuel. Today this town of 25,000 residents has transformed itself from a post-Civil War cotton town into a busy business centre. The city's historic downtown area has numerous ornate buildings of the era and many lovely Victorian homes lining brick paved streets. There is a Pioneer Village, the Warehouse of Living Arts Center, a temple as well as a Collins Street Bakery and other attractions.

You always find these lovely building to photograph, I espeically liked the synagogue with its domes.
