Off The Beaten Path: SAN ANTONIO
  • Tip Rating:
  • San Antonio is the eighth largest city in the U.S. and the third biggest in Texas. The famed River Walk, Tower of the Americas, the Mercado Mexican-style marketplace, theme parks, art museums are well patronised.

The Alamo was known as Mission San Antonio de Valero, and it originally served as a home to missionaries and their Indian converts for nearly 70 years. Construction began on the present site in 1724. In the early 1800s the Spanish military stationed a cavalry unit there and referred to it as the Alamo. It played a critical role in the Texas Revolution which is what it is today remembered for.

Off The Beaten Path: NEW BRAUNFELS
  • Tip Rating:
  • New Braunfels is a little bit of old Germany right in the middle of the Texas Hill Country. Originally founded in 1845, when Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels brought the first group of immigrants to a 1,265-acre plot of land he had purchased along the Guadalupe River. The Guadalupe starts at Canyon Dam and flow through New Braunfels for about 18 miles. It is one of the most popular tubing rivers in Texas.

Off The Beaten Path: SAN MARCOS
  • Tip Rating:
  • As in all these small towns, the main square is the heart where various activities during the year are held. This part of the city is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and features a quaint marketplace. The river is also a nationally recognised natural treasure. San Marcos is also home to Southwest Texas State University (SWT) - which is recognised as one of the top 3 public universities in Texas.
