    • There is over 80 miles of coast line, seven Corps of Engineer Public Parks, two Military Recreation Areas and two Marinas and the area has become one of Southern Texas' premier water recreation and fishing lakes, since its opening in the early 1960's.

    • Canyon Lake was formed as a flood control device in the 1960's to protect residents south of the lake. The Guadalupe River was dammed up by the construction of the Canyon Dam and in addition to the benefit of flood control, the local residents were presented with the creation of a beautiful lake. Releases from the Lake have powered a series of small hydroelectric dams downstream on the Guadalupe River.

    At the top of Canyon Dam there is a picturesque park with panoramic Lake views and picnic tables under ancient oak trees. The Vereda Real is a popular 6km walking and jogging path across the top of the Dam.

    • Canyon Lake lies at the southern end of the Texas Hill country. There are numerous B&B's nestled in the hills.

    • From Overlook Park there is a 5k hiking trail which leads across the dam through North Park and back again. There is also a 7K Hiking/Biking/Horseback Riding Trail between Canyon Park and Potters Creek Parks which is accessed via airport road.

    • The Guadalupe River, which is the main water source for Canyon Lake, supplies sensational whitewater rapids for canoeists, kayakers and rafters. That water was darn cold even in 100F temps.

    • The lakes and streams throughout this area lend themselves to great fishing. The Guadalupe River below Canyon Dam is well stocked with Rainbow and Brown Trout and the low water temperature due to the Canyon Lake Dam makes this river ideal for great fishing. There are plenty of shops for purchasing bait and renting boats and fishing equipment.
