Palace of Wax & Ripley's - Arlington
Palace of Wax & Ripley's Ripley's Believe It Or Not Wax Museum Review

Palace of Wax & Ripley's Believe It Or Not! features over 175 realistic characters such as Hollywood stars, favourite storybook characters, heroes and villains from the wild west and famous American figures in history. They were all created by a resident wax artist.

This attraction I later realised is actually in Grand Prairie (which borders Arlington)

Address: 601 E.Safari Pkwy, I-30 at Beltline. Grand Prairie

Inside the Park - Arlington
Inside the Park

Inside the ballpark there is a 17,000sqft museum, a children’s learning centre and a 4 story office building.

The field itself is 22ft below street level so as to avoid summer winds. The movie 'The Rookie' with Denis Quaid was filmed at the then called, Arlington Ballpark.

Ameriquest Field - Arlington
Ameriquest Field Ameriquest Field Review

Home of the Texas Rangers. This stadium until May 2004 was called the Arlington Ballpark and was built at a cost of $191 million, taking 23 months to build. It t has a capacity for 49,178 people. There is an infield tarp that is mounted on hydraulic lifts and stored below ground level.

Outside the park there is the Rangers Walk of Fame where you can read about each team in franchise history on the brick path beneath them.

The Texas Giant - Arlington
The Texas Giant Six Flags Review

The Texas Giant is a legend and was named #1 wooden rollercoaster in the world (I'm not sure it is still #1). This is just an amazing mass of criss-crossing timbers which twists and soars and plunges. It reaches a top speed of 62pmp and rises to a height of 143ft but the length of this giant is 4,920ft in all.

By the end of the day I was exhausted and gave this one a miss until next time, but I believe it shakes you around and is not one of the most smoothest rides - still it is a legend and shouldn't be missed.

I forgot to get a photo inside the park and the only angle to get even part of it was from a service road - not a great foreground (travelogue) so again this is with credit to Joe Schwarz at joyride.com..

Hurricane Harbor - Arlington
Hurricane Harbor Hurricane Harbor Review

Hurricane Harbor is Texas' largest water recreation park set on almost fifty acres. It features 10 separate entertainment areas which provide games, rides and other activities.

The park also has four full-size volleyball courts, two courts in a waist-deep pool and two 18-hole miniature golf courses. I haven't been inside but being right along the freeway, you can't miss it driving between Dallas and Fort Worth.

Address: 1800 East Lamar Boulevard, Arlington

Directions: Exit Interstate 30 between Dallas and Fort Worth. Take either Texas 360 North or Texas 157 North to Lamar Blvd.

Shock Wave - Arlington
Shock Wave Six Flags Review

Shock Wave was the first ride we did. It was the world's first rollercoaster with back to back vertical loops.

I didn't take a photo for this ride and so credit goes to Joe Schwarz at joyrides.com..

The Oil Derrick - Arlington
The Oil Derrick Six Flags Review

This is the landmark at Six Flags and probably for Arlington as well. You can ride to the top and get an overall view of not only the park but skylines of Dallas and Ft Worth. It was closed due to the windy conditions when we were there - pity, as I really wanted to go up it. Next time.

Escape from Dino Island - Arlington
Escape from Dino Island

This is a turboride which I'm saving for next time. There is a 48 x 63 ft screen which takes 100 riders on a multi-sensory turbo-ride adventure dodging trees, lava, rocks and hungry reptiles which apparently leap up at your from the screen.

The Titan - Arlington
The Titan Six Flags Review

The Titan is the parks latest ride to open in 2001. It features one of the world's biggest drops from 255 ft up at hyper speeds of 85 miles an hour. It was the last one we did as it had been closed most of the day due to wind but it was certainly one of the smoothest rides of the day. The ride takes 3 minutes of plunges, a 120ft tunnel of total darkness, a series of camel back hills, huge spiral curves and high speed helixes.

Mr Freeze - Arlington
Mr Freeze Six Flags Review

Mr Freeze was a ride and a half. This is the tallest and fastest coaster in the southwest. You are launched from 0 to 70mph in less than 4 seconds. It shoots you vertically up 242 ft and drops you down backwards, shooting you back through to where you started. You are left wondering what the hell struck you. I came off looking like I had been through a hedge backwards. The ride is supposedly Mr Freeze's revenge on Gotham City.
