The city of Addison is on the northern edge of Dallas in Dallas county. There are over 135 restaurants in 4.3 square miles, not to mention a very adequate amount of hotels to support this area. You will also find great shopping at the Galleria with well known department stores such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Of cultural interest there is the Cavanaugh Flight Museum which features full restored WWI and WWII planes and the WaterTower Theatre. Addison's has 118 acres of parks which are some of the finest in Texas.
Once an area called Peters Colony, it was settled as early as 1846 when Preston Witt built a house on White Rock Creek. The area id not become known as Addison until 1902 when it was named after Addison Robertson, who served as the community's second postmaster from 1908-1916. The first industry was a cotton gin which was built on Addison Road near the railroad and became the Plano Cotton Oil Mill in 1904 and the Farmers Gin of Addison in 1919. The City of Addison was incorporated on June 15, 1953.
Today Addison is very much a business area with the residential area being mostly made up of apartment complexes. |
