Pensacola is in Escambia County which is in the extreme western end of the Florida Panhandle which borders the State of Alabama on the west and north. Unlike most of Florida, Pensacola and the Gulf Coast areas are on Central time zone. Known as the ‘City of Five Flags”, the history here is a long one spanning 400 years and during that time has changed hands 17 times between the French, Spanish, British, Confederate and U.S. The Native Americans were thought to have lived in the area for more than 10,000 years and the street names, architecture, rivers and creeks even reflect their presence. Seafood and timber were the early contributors to the economy and later the military and tourism brought about a whole new focus on business.
The beach areas were largely undeveloped for many decades until modern bridges were built and the area was made more accessible to cars. Today there are miles of protected seashore after the creation of the National Seashore in 1972. There are many activities to be enjoyed and many sights to see in Pensacola like Fort Pickens, a Civil War fortress which was later a prison for the Indian chief Geronimo. There is also the Pensacola Naval Air Station, home of the fabled Blue Angels acrobatic team and one of the world's largest aviation museums. We were just passing through so I cannot comment personally but it certainly seems worth a visit and spending more time.

Nice tiny page here kay ;-D
Maybe someday you come visit the REAL Florida(Orlando/Miami/Keys)....;-)
Pensacola beach is my favorite vacation spot! I just love the sandy white beach and the hot Florida sun. I usually take the kids each spring break and stay a week there. I can recommend the Holiday Inn, right on the beach.
a most interesting place, and Molly with all the money hanging down in her pub hopefully has the firebrigade next door, just in case ...
I hope to visit this place one day. Sounds wonderful... Lovely pics and great info... ;-)
OK, now I have to put the Florida panhandle on my "to go" list.
343 Days of Sun! Haven't seen that in 5 years in Seattle! Maybe that's an exaggeration- Nice pics and again, much detail in your tips.
Your page brings out some of my favorite images of Pensacola. There are so many wonderful places to eat, it's hard to choose.
McGuires sounds like my kind of place.Did Michael try the burger?
