Over the centuries, Brussels has been ruled by everyone from the Romans to the Spanish to the Germans. Today its current occupiers are diplomats, lobbyists, and Euro-politicians who gather at the NATO and European Union headquarters there. International business has also made its mark on the cities skyline resulting in blocks full of steel and glass office buildings, but these modern designs are only a few steps from the cobbled streets, wonderful cafes, and delightful Art Nouveau architecture that give testament to the city's eventful past.
While Brussel Sprouts would appear to originate from Brussels, the early origins of this vegetable actually comes originally from Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan however the” modern day” Brussel sprout cultivated in Belgium around the 1500’s seems to be where it got its name.
Brussels, apart from being renowned for its bureaucracy, is also known for the tiny bronze statue called the Mannekin Pis. A statue that I remember in my younger days as being a decanter…. With the same workings and result as the statue in Brussels.
Brussels is the capital of Belgium, a country which has produces hundreds of breweries and unbelievable as it is, also produced Tin Tin and The Smurfs . Some of the landmarks of the city are the Atonium and Grand Palace once described by Victor Hugo described as "the most beautiful square in the world".
