  • The Galleria Mall is a huge shopping centre full of some very ‘nice’ stores - all the big names are here. There is an ice rink on the lower ground floor and a five screen Cinema as well. A very dangerous place to go with credit cards.

  • This Mall is huge!!!.. there is over 2 million square feet of shopping and dining under one roof and it is reportedly the largest shopping mall in the southwest.. I could certainly believe that when I saw it.

There are outlet stores for Saks 5th Avenue, Dockers, Ann Taylor, Liz Claiborne, Gap, Bugle Boy, Brooks Brothers as well as JC Penny and Nieman Marcus just to name a few . The prices are really very good.

Other than the large Department Stores there is also a great variety of very different individual stores which also seem to have good values. The Mall is very colourful inside and out. You really need to be prepared to spend several hours there and have plenty of money to spend because there are some great temptations.

  • Name of Shop: The Tanger Outlet Stores

There are two Tanger Outlet Centres in Texas – Terrell in East Texas and in San Marcos, the hill country. These are large complexes full of designer and specialist type stores all at around 20-70% less than normal retail.

The one at San Marcos has around 150 stores and I believe is the biggest – it certainly looked the biggest. Both are on the main freeways in their respective areas.

San Marcos - 4015 Interstate 35 South, San Marcos and Terrell - 301 Tanger Drive, Terrell TX 75160.

  • El Mercado (Market Square).
This is a great market area with lots of Mexican atmosphere. Some really good restaurants as well as loads of colourful stores selling souvenirs, typical Mexican wares and clothing. Something for everyone. There is a really lovely upmarket 3 level store, Los Pueblitos, which had some very nice wares indeed.

    Quarry Market
Quarry Market is a huge shopping area just to the north of the city and is San Antonio's newest and hottest shopping centre. (700 N. St. Mary's, San Antonio).

    The Rivercenter Mall
The Mall has around some 130 shops, stores, and restaurants on its three levels. There is also a multiplex cinema, a comedy club, and an IMAX theatre, which features the film "Alamo...The Price of Freedom" on a six-story-high screen. On the river side, where the tour boats make their turns, you can hear and see mariachi music being played.

  • Name of Shop: The Galleria Westheimer

The Galleria Westheimer has got to be Houston’s best shopping mall or at very least, the most well known. The mall is set beneath large glass atriums and has over 300 shops and restaurants with many designer brands featured. There is an ice skating rink on the bottom which can best be viewed from the upper levels. Be careful of taking photos here – if the security guard sees you he will ask if you have a permit. There are no signs up to tell you that you can’t but fortunately I had my photos already. If you do want to do it legally, you need to go to the managers office and ask for a permit.

Just FYI on fire ants. Immediately soak your feet (hands, ankles, etc.) in undiluted household bleach for a couple of minutes. You won't even have to repeat like you do with the hot water.
