The Golden Roof in the old town is the most well-known landmark in Innsbruck, it was a balcony for the Imperial Court. Goldene Dachl (Golden Roof) is composed of 2,600 gilded tiles. The Hofburg a 15th-century imperial palace and former seat of the provincial sovereigns. It was adapted to a baroque style under Maria Theresa in the eighteenth century. The Rococo state apartments are nothing exceptional except for the huge ballroom. Open everyday 9a.m. through 5p.m .

Innsbruck's main artery is Maria-Theresien-Srasse famed for the view north towards the great rock wall of Nordkette, the mountain which dominates the city. Halfway along the street is the Annasaule, a column supporting a statue of the virgin but named after St Anne, who appears at the base and was erected to commemorate the retreat of the Bavarians on St Annes Day, July 26 1703. .

The Triumphal Arch (Triumphpforte) is in Maria Theresa St and was built in advance of celebrations marking the marriage in 1756 of Maria Theresa's son Leopold with a Spanish lady, Maria Ludovica. Leopold later became Emperor Leopold II of Austria. The ashlars stem from the old Georgstor, a city gate. Leopold's father died on the day of the wedding. .
