Things To Do: Vaduz
  • Tip Rating:
  • Vaduz is the tiny capital with only 5,000 inhabitants. Over the years it has been developing into quite a major regional centre. Vaduz gained worldwide attention through the Games of Small States of Europe.

Things To Do: Just a Short Stop
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you are like most, you probably only have a couple of hours or so to just wander around the narrow streets of the town and visit the little souvenir and stamp collection shops. Since Liechtenstein is a monarchy it issues its own, highly-collectable postage stamps.

Things To Do: Church of Vaduz

    Things To Do: Stamp Museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • Vaduz has a small, one room, Stamp Museum, which is probably of more interest to stamp collectors as it displays some very rare pieces. It is right next to the tourist office and it’s free admission. There are a few other small museums but not a whole lot else in Vaduz other than drift in and out of the shops. The location of the town is lovely, nestled in the valley with an inspiring back drop of the mountains and its landmark castle.

    Things To Do: Vaduz Castle
  • Tip Rating:
  • Vaduz Castle sits on a rock base above Vaduz with commanding views over the Rhine valley. The Ruling Prince, Hans Adam II and his wife, have their residence in the castle and therefore the castle is not open to the public. He was the first prince to take permanent residence in Liechtenstein. The origins date back to the 12th century and the keep and buildings on the east side are the oldest surviving parts of the castle. The foundations of the chapel were most likely built at the height of the middle ages. During the Swabian War in 1499, the castle was burned down by Swiss Confederacy troops.

Things To Do: The Rhine River
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Rhine River flows along the western border of Liechtenstein. The Rhine begins and flows from the Swiss mountains through Austria, Germany, France and Luxembourg to the Netherlands and the North Sea. In the lower part of the country, the area alongside the Rhine is very flat and fertile.

Must try and fit in Lichtenstein when I'm next in the area, as you say it is a cool place to say you've been if nothing else! I really enjoyed the "Interesting Facts" about this tiney country. Thanks for visiting my gorilla pages and your kind comments.
