Mijas Pueblo is a beautiful village lies close to Fuengirola some 450 metres above sea level in the foothills of Sierra de Mijas. The cobblestoned town is one of those lovely white washed villages of Andalucía half living in the past and the other half moving into the future. You cannot help but be enchanted with the narrow lanes and colourful flowerpots adoring the walls and balconies.
There is lots of history to this split level little town which seems to date back to around 600AD when the town was known as Tamisa. In its early year the town saw much fighting and was conquered by the Moors who changed the name to Mixa and eventually to Mijas. There are still remains of the fortress walls. The town was an important commercial centre.
The town is made up of around 7,500 people which swells during the summer months. The residents are a mixture of both English and largely European who have decided to make this lovely village their home.

You have taken me back many years. Thanks for stirring the memories. I guess it is bigger and busier these days. I'd hoped the burros would have been put out to grass by now though.
