All Roads Lead to Rome
Located in central Italy on the banks of the Tiber River, Rome is the capital of Italy as well as the cultural, political and historical centre of the country. The metropolitan area is similar to the size of Washington D.C. Rome is known as the eternal city and has existed for over 2,700 years and full of history and culture. In Rome you can walk in the footsteps of the Caesars, St. Peter, Charlemagne, the Popes and Michelangelo.
Past history states that Romulus founded Rome in 753 BCE. In the next 700 years it evolved from a rustic trading place to a city, state to the centre of a world empire. When the Roman Empire fell, the city declined but rose again to prominence as the seat of the Papacy. The city really flourished under the Popes in the 16th century CE Renaissance and the Baroque 17th century. The Vatican still remains under papal rule.
Today Rome is a busy, vital city and a world leader in many areas, particularly fashion and manufacturing. There is so much to do in Rome - sightseeing the architecture of the ages, visiting great art works See the art and architecture of the or just relaxing in a sidewalk cafe and taking in the atmosphere.
O Blessed Lady, who dost hold Upon the seven hills thy reign! O Mother without blot or stain, Crowned with bright crowns of triple gold!
O Roma, Roma, at thy feet I lay this barren gift of song! For, ah! the way is steep & long That leads unto thy sacred street.
