"Keeweechic's Port Denison" Port Denison by keeweechic

Port Denison Travel Guide: 6 reviews and 12 photos

Port Denison is the twin town of Dongara, lying just to the south. The town was originally known as Port Irwin when the area was first discovered. A jetty was constructed by both locals and convict labour and the remains of which can still be seen today. It wasn’t until 1959 that a second jetty was built. Today there is a third jetty which forms part of the marina.

There are a few historical buildings such as Pearse’s Warehouse which was built in 1867, Moore’s Warehouse built in 1869, and the Government Bond Store built in 1894.

Pt Denison and Dongara have a thriving Rock Lobster fishing industry even to the point of being known as ‘The Lobster Capital’. There is a large Rock Lobster (crayfish) processing factory in the area. The area is also of interest during the wildflower blooming in Spring.
