Midland’s Town Hall is a Federation Free Classical style of architecture and one of the areas best known buildings. The official opening was in 1907 and at that time the dome did not have the clock you see today. It was after World War 1 when the citizens formed a War Memorial Committee and began to raise funds. A memorial clock was purchased and was installed on top of the dome. Soldiers Memorial and Memorial Tablets were unveiled in 1923. The Town Hall served as the Council Chambers and Administration Centre for the Midland Junction Municipal Council which was known as the Midland Town Council from 1961. The building was left to fall in to disrepair and after the 1968 Meckering earthquake, the building was threatened with demolition. The new Shire of Swan in 1970, decided to leave the Town Hall for the use of the community and restoration work was carried out in the 1970’s and 80’s. It was again restored during 1995 and 1996 and opened in grand style in 2000 with a Mayoral Ball.
