Jarrahdale is a delightful little historic town right in the Darling Range 47km south east of Perth. The town’s name came about because of the surrounding best Jarrah Forrests in Western Australia. During the 1870’s there were a large number of timber concessions granted in this area and because of it, some 50 houses were built (mostly from cut offs) and a small community evolved. A store and workshop opened, then a mill followed by a school. The railway finally came into the area to transport the timber through Mudijong to Rockingham. The town thrived although it took some time for the government to declare Jarrahdale a town and that didn’t happen until 1913.

This historic little town which was official classified in 1997, has some lovely old heritage buildings and museum collections. There are plenty of arts and crafts and tea gardens to enjoy. There are also some beautiful walk trails through the parks in the area not to mention lovely picnic spots. You can find some wonderful accommodation also in the B & B’s in the area. Unique in themselves is the modified and restored railway carriages which sleep two to four people. This beautiful rural area has inspired many artists and crafts people to make Jarrahdale their home. The Jarrahdale Heritage Park is well on the way to becoming a major Western Australian tourism attraction.
