Melbourne is the capital city of Victoria and the second largest city in Australia. Covering an area of 7,280 sq kms, it is home to 3.2 million people who are made up of the most cosmopolitan mix of ethnic groups and backgrounds of all the Australian cities. Melbourne while it is a major city, it has less panic and more warmth of other large cities. The parks around the city and the old churches which are floodlit at night give an English feel. It is said to be one of the worlds most liveable cities. One day I'm sure, I will find myself back living here.
Melburnians love their sport and are keen supporters of the major events such as the Formula One Grand Prix held in March, the Australian Open Tennis held in January, The Melbourne Cup horse race and spring racing carnival in November and the Australian 500cc Motor Cycle Grand Prix which all attract major crowds. The final of the local AFL football league brings in crowds up to 100,000. |
Fact:; Melbourne contains the largest concentration of Greeks living outside of Greece.
This page covers a lot more areas than just the Melbourne Metro but they are trips that can be done as organised or solo day trips. |
