The Mandarin Hotel is where I stayed on my first visit to Bangkok some years ago. They have recently renovated their 400 rooms and suites. There is a choice of restaurants and a round the clock coffee shop. It was a handy walk to a large department store and other shopping.

The rooms were very comfortable and service from the housemaids was very prompt when I needed it. Every effort was made to make you feel welcome. There is a shopping arcade there as well. I was quite impressed.
