Kuala Lumpur, or "KL" as it is commonly known, is the capital and the largest city of Malaysia and is found midway along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The city's past is still very much present in the British colonial style buildings still within the city. The new KL is seen in the modern office towers and the ever present construction that continues to expand and update. The country has also developed an extensive and modern transportation network of which K.L. sits at the centre. Selangor surrounds the capital with green suburbs and industrial areas, but as you leave the city a different, older and more natural environment unfolds.
In the Klang Valley, there are tin mines and these are closely linked to the development as well as the history of Malaysia where a lot of the civil war of the country took place in. In the eastern part of the country you will find more of the tropical heartland with the hills and forests and of course the Batu Caves. |
| | I had cause to travel to K.L. on business a couple of times (as well as traveling through the city on my way to the Cameron Highlands). I was mostly travelling out to Banda Utama and Klang to new complexes being established out there and it gave me a chance to see more of the countryside. I found the shopping really great but the traffic and the roads at that time dreadful. Since the Commonwealth games were held I am very sure the city was tidied up and things are not so chaotic. For lack of another destination in Malaysia, I have included Malacca on this page. |
