No longer divided as a city, there was still evidence of the division that once was. While only a small section of the wall remained as a tourist attraction, once into the old East Berlin the grey and decaying apartment blocks and buildings were a stark contrast to the west of the city. A lot of rebuilding was taking place. It was hard to imagine the imprisonment this sector had undergone for so many years. Everywhere there were reminders of those ravaged times.
I was in Berlin in March, the weather was good but cold especially since I had just come from Singapore where I was living at the time. In the countryside, snow, or rather ice, still lay in patches on the ground. The trees were still leafless but it wasn't hard to imagine what a beautiful city this was especially in summer.
