  • Costa Blanca has lots of hidden coves if you go for a short walk and there is a great cactus garden with huge cactuses and fantstic views out to sea just before you get to Calpe.Calpe rock has a good beach and nature reserve which is away from the hustle of the resort centre. It is much prettier and quieter here and the beach does not get crowded at all.Very pieceful.

Here in beautiful and pieceful Moraira Bay.

  • You must drive to a Spanish village up in the hills to see the real Spain.I found Elche a great choice.I also went to Villajoyosa,a small fishing port with narrow streets and the last week of July, they hold a Fiesta. The Fiesta and parade is well worth seeing and it lasts for a week.I enjoyed the El Algar Waterfalls also, which you could swim in,very refreshing on a hot day.

Here is the wonderful cactus garden on the coast road to Calpe.

Off The Beaten Path: Trendy roundabouts
  • Tip Rating:
  • Denia has a great seafront which has been done very nicely. Its an all year round town with lots of bars, resturants staying open.It has banks, chemists, doctors, vets, supermarkets, dentists, estate agents etc.Take a walk along the seafront and harbour and then relax at a bar.Denia also has a castle on a hill over looking the town. The castle is well worth going to for the great views alone. It also has a great museum inside and stunning gardens to relax in. Quite a hard walk up and well worth the effort. A bar was open when we went to the Castle. Allow yourself around two hours to relax and look around. There are also art sculptures in the lovely gardens. Loos are available and plenty of shade under pine trees and picnic benches.

  • Spain is a large place and each region has different climates. The north coast is battered by the Atlantic throughout winter and is cold and gets plenty of rain, mist. But it has nice hot summers and thunderstorms. The med coast is wide spread as from deserts of Almeria to subtropical climate in Granada to pine covered hills of Catalunya. The Pyrenees are always snowcapped. The centre of Spain is the "high meseta"...."the plain of Spain".It ranges in height from 1310 feet to 3280 feet.
This area has very hot summers but very cold winds in winter.

We have just returned from a couple of weeks on Almadrava beach. Had a fantastic time and ate often at Arizona. Great food and friendly staff. Ask for Roberto. Try the clams, Musells al vapour (tapas), Arroz Abanda and Paella.
