I agree it was expensive. We did go in, but did the audio tour, which made it alright. Otherwise...your system :) Really, how long can you stare at a pile of rocks? Have you been to Avebury? I loved that one so much more. We were the only visitors...free!

That's really disappointing, I always imagined Stonehenge was in the middle of nowhere and here it is right off the motorway behind a chain link fence :-(

I have always wanted to visit the place but only saw it from the motorway as we passed. So perhaps I don't need to have regrets, the wire fence could have spoilt the experience for me anyway.

My sister-in-law took me to Stonehenge one year. It was a special visit for me - just awe inspiring really.

I don't agree. We went with the audio tour found it interesting. Ok you don't get to climb on the monuments and touch them any more- like we did in 1953! - but for a one off visit, I didn't grudge the fee. There are seats to sit on and food for sale too.

Amazing that they would charge 5 pounds to see this... that must be millions of pounds they have collected, yet offer no services near it :(

Historically significant for sure, but I agree it seems a little over-rated as a tourist attraction. Still, it's one of those places I feel compelled to visit someday!

Wow, who would have thought this would be a drive-by site!?! Thanks for the tip. Happy travels. :)
