I went to Costa Del Sol on my first trip to Spain. It was my first hol ever with my husband. We went on a package holiday to Fuengirola.Fuengirola is in south-east Spain and it has plenty of bars and life.Malaga and Marbella are close by and Fuengirola has high rise buildings lining the beach. The beach is 4 miles long and the promenade runs almost the entire length of the beach. All along this are high rise blocks. We went for one week half board in a hotel called something like Las Piramides.

This resort is very popular with families and older people and is package holiday heaven. There is not many nice sights here apart from the Plaza de la Constitucion. It has a church and bars and is nice as they have outdoor seating. The streets around here are quite pleasant too. Some of them are car free and you can sit and eat a nice meal in peace.I had a nice meal along one street and really enjoyed it.

The hotel we stayed in was crap.We payed £450 per person and expected it to be really nice. Los Piramides was basic and not worth the money. The rooms were really basic and the food was rubbish. They served jelly and ice cream for dessert every night and nothing else. The buffet food was rubbish.

    Things To Do: Markets
  • Tip Rating:
  • The hotel food was so crap we eat out every night. The first night when we were queing up for restaurant we waited like half an hour and bloke at desk kept looking. When we got there he said sorry no shorts allowed. He let us wait half an hour then told us.What a prat.He could of told us as soon as we walked up to join que.He saw us walk up.Another thing is the buffet food was cold and not enough to go around. It was really bad.But saying this it was 7 years ago so the hotel may be great now.Enough said about hotel.

There is a huge market held on Tuesadays. There is a water park near by which is worth going to called Parque Acuatico and it has water slides and pools and is open from May til Sept(end).Great for children and big kids like me ;-)

Things To Do: Plenty to eat and drink
  • Tip Rating:
  • There is also a castle in Fuengirola which is worth seeing. It was built by the Moors in A956 and destroyed in 1485.It was rebuilt in 1730.I liked going here as the views were exellent.Nearby Mijas has loads of great golf courses.Fuengirola has a great selection of bars and restaurants and i walked along the Paseo Maritimo along the beach and looked at all the menus on display.I liked the ice cream parlours and the chinese all you can eat buffets.

I liked it here but it was abit too built up for my liking. Its a good place for families though as it has everything in one place....I will always remember it as it was my first experience of Spain and i did have a good time here.

Things To Do: Hire a car
  • Tip Rating:
  • As the hotel food was crap we went to loads of restaurants and bars. They were all pretty good and the food was good quality and think i put on half a stone ;-).We hired a car and went to a village called Mijas which was an enjoyable day out.

I remember driving to Mijas and the scenery on the way was great. Its 1400 feet above sea level and has some nice streets. Its very popular and coach loads of people visit during the day.We visited late afternoon as most coaches had left or were leaving. In the pic you can see behind me donkeys and horse and carts. You could hire a horse and cart and tour the town. But i decided to walk.I remember buying some caramel baked nuts things off a stall here and they were so yummy i bought another pack about an hour later.

    Things To Do: Museum
  • Tip Rating:
  • The car and coach park was really busy and it was hard to find somewhere to park.We parked up and saw a mobile hut thing. It was a museum so we decided to go in.It was full of minature things.Things like a painting of a face painted onto a pin head.A minature shrunken head of a real person, a matchstick that was painted with a landscape painting. It was very strange but interesting.Think it was roughly about £1 to get it but this was about 6 -7years ago.

  • We walked around Mijas and there were a selection of gift shops and a few nice bars and restaurants and we had a drink on one of them.We then walked along and saw a church and it had a garden at front and wonderful views across the mountains to the sea.It was breath taking. There were a few benches and we just sat for a while and admired the views.

Things To Do: Had a memorable trip
  • Tip Rating:
  • So my view of Fuengirola is mostly positive. It was clean and tidy and had a great nightlife and a great selection of places to eat and drink. The beach was ok but i dont think it was that nice and ive seen nicer. When i went it was so windy and sand went everywhere and it actually stung as it was so windy and it was blowing around.I think what made the trip was hiring a car and seeing the beauty inland.By all means go to Fuengirola but do go inland abit as its wonderful.I would go back and i would rent an apartment and eat out every night ;-)
Also Mijas was a nice day out.The great views and the roasted caramel nuts and walking along the nice streets. Its worth going here but try to go late afternoon so u can park and see alot more without bus loads of people.

I agree with you. Mijas is much beautiful than Fuengirola, but it's ok for a beach rest. Did you rode a "donkey-taxi" at Mijas?

Have seen inexpensive packages here from the States, so I wondered if it was worth it. Probably would rather try another destination on the Costa del Sol---thanks for the tips!

You did the best thing by hiring a car, the beauty of Andalucia is not always on the coast

great writings about your trip! I am back since some days from my first andalucia trip. I was between malaga and almeria. I was fascinated from landscape in andalucia too!
