Favorite thing: In resorts shops will open all day and Sundays too.Chemists will close on Saturday afternoon and Sundays. Most bars will open at 7am or so and stay open til late. Most bars may stay open til 3-6am in resorts.Banks and shops tend to open at 9-10am and shut around 1-2pm for siesta and then open again from 4-5pm til 9-10pm.Some shops in busy resorts will not close for lunch.
Post boxes are a nice yellow colour and have a slot for foreign posts called" Extranjeros".A postcard will cost about 30p to post to England.Lanzarote does not have many youth hostels or back packing facilities like most other places.

December .Things happen all over from plays to dancing and processions.
This is just a taster of what goes on and there are many other things happening.
Me at Cesars house
Favorite thing: This is Lanzarote's main resort but is still nice and tasteful. It has 5km of sandy beaches and a great choice of places to eat and drink. Its a great place to stay to visit all the other sites of the island. Its mostly newly built and built for tourism. They kept to Cesars wishes here and kept everything low rise and white washed. The Old Harbour is very nice and still used by local people and i really liked it here. The square next to harbour was full of local people when i went .
The main beach is called Playa Blanca and is beautiful, very long yellow sand.Along here you can walk along a nice path which has pleasant gardens to one side and see bars and restaurants lined up the other side of the road. This is the area to come at night. It has clubs and discos and is full of life.I had a meal here one night and loved the atmosphere.
Fondest memory: Restaurants around the harbour had great fresh caught fish and i remember eating grilled tuna with garlic and canarian potatoes washed down with some great dry white wine from Uga.Heaven.
Green beaches
Favorite thing: I found Haria very green and full of palm trees and other plants. Not many people come here and i liked that as it was very quiet. It is very unspoilt too.The little streets were lovely to walk along and i loved seeing all the beautiful trailing flowers in blossom.I came apon a main square and loads of birds singing and i sat in the shade and it was so relaxing.I think i liked the area so much as it was so green and there were palms everywhere and cacti. As we drove upto the village we saw big meadows and fields full of crops and flowers.
Fondest memory: We stopped at a view point on the way to the village as it had great views and just admired the beautiful green lush valley. It was so different from all the rest of Lanzarote.
VOLCANIC SCENERY ALL OVER LANZAROTE
Favorite thing: As i followed the path,it opened up into a beautiful made made lake. And at the top of the Jameos is a musuem of science that has loads of things on volcanic activity
Tuesday,Friday and Saturday are the nights when the nightclub is open.Do go here as i found it a great day out and a very strange and beautiful place..
Fondest memory: I visited Teguise too when i hired a car.Teguise is quite small but i found the street and square very pretty.I found it very pleasant with beautiful little streets and scenic buildings.Teguise has many nice plazas. The main square has a church which the top is white. There are lots of white buildings around and beautiful palms etc.On Sunday there is a huge market. It starts at 9am and finishes around 2pm or so.This market is very popular and one of the biggest around.People are bought in by the bus load and all the streets are full of stalls and shoppers. Its a bright and happening atmosphere and i really enjoyed it.But if you dont like crowds avoid it as it gets extremely busy.
ONE OF LANZAROTES BEAUTIFUL BEACHES
Favorite thing: At the Jameos del Agua there are also the worlds only blind Albino crabs.I enjoyed having lunch here at the cafe.Food was delicious and a good price.
Concerts are held here,in the cave section and it seats 500 people. This place is mysterious, with lots of little paths and plant beds. This place turns into a nightclub on Tuesday,Friday and Saturday.Concerts and lectures are also held here on occasion.
Fondest memory: tel- 928 83 50 10
open from july-sept-daily from 9.30-7pm.....oct-june daily from 11-6.45.....also tues, fri, sat from 7pm-3am(nightclub and restaurant)
This place is very unusual and again i really liked it.Cesar Manrique had great taste and flair and i found everything he did really nice and kind of exotic as well as modern.
CEASAR MANRIQUE DESIGNED THIS PLACE TOO
Favorite thing: I also visited the Jameos Del Agua.Cesar Manrique has turned this volcanic feature into a beautiful exotic subterranean water garden.A staircase twists down underground and at the bottom is a restaurant and a dance floor and an underground lake.I found this place beautiful and i could of spent all day here. There is plenty to see and do.At night ,this place becomes a night club.
Fondest memory: The Jameos is an underground volcanic tunnel.I found this place quite mystical as you could hear birds singing and it was echoing around. It felt cool. There are lots of little paths that lead around rocks and plants out to a beautiful manmade lake. There is a museum up the top which tells you all about volcanoes.I cannot describe the feeling when i first saw the lake.It was simply stunning.I spent about 4 hours here as it was so nice and relaxing.
ME AT CESAR MANRIQUES HOME
Favorite thing: I enjoyed renting a car and discovering all the beautiful little beaches and coves.Seeing the baron scenery and just stopping off where ever i liked.Valle de la Geria is worth visiting. This area seems black and baron and dead, but wine is grown here. Its very strange scenery, almost like being on another planet.Beautiful flowers grow along roads here in spring. The vineyards are weird too. Each vine grows in a hollow dug into the shingle like rock. There is a small stone wall built around part of each hollow. This is to protect the vines. It is very sucessful as over 200kgs of grapes can be grown on each vine.I think the vines look pretty.Make the landscape look unsual but beautiful. The grapes make dry white wine and it can bought in Uga in Bodegas.Be careful when walking here as rocks here are very sharp.Well worth seeing as the landscape is very scenic and yet baron but beautiful.
Fondest memory: Lanzarote was very natural and i miss the laid back atmosphere. As there are no big hotels, the place is beautiful and unspoilt, which is hard to find nowadays.I found the Island pleasantly uncrowded and very relaxing.I would say that Lanzarote is a very classy, tasteful place. There is so much to see and do.
The food here was fabulous and the wine (which is grown here)was the bees knees...
Lanzarote has a special charm and Cesar has made it this way....
I LOVED THE CACTUS GARDEN
Favorite thing: Here is the car park at the cactus garden, you will not miss it,just look for the giant cactus. I went to the Gardin De Cactus(cactus garden)and enjoyed it very much.It has over 1400 varities of cactuses and a nice bar, which does food and a gift shop.I found this place very exciting and it is cheap to get in.It is open daily. In total, there are over 10,000 plants here and some of the cactus are huge.
tel- 928 52 93 97
opens from -daily 10-7pm(summer)
winter- 10-6pm
Fondest memory: Cesar Manrique done up this old quarry into a beautiful cactus garden. The first thing you notice is the huge 8 feet tall metal cactus in the car park. The garden is an oval shape and has terraces. There is a huge mixture of cacti and it took me over two hours just walking around and looking. The gardens were spotless too.So many different types too.Tall ones, prickly ones, spider like ones, flowering ones, furry ones etc. There is an old windmill on a hiill over looking the entire gardens and as far as i know its still used to grinding grain.
The restaurant bar here was very nice and i enjoyed sipping a nice malibu and coke while enjoying the beautiful gardens.
